The blueberry – incredibly small but packed with many amazing nutrients and properties to benefit you, your body and overall, your health! In this post, you can see just some of the reasons why you should be adding more blueberries to your diet.
Antioxidant Properties
Blueberries are known for their antioxidant properties and are believed to have one of the highest antioxidant levels when compared to other common fruits and vegetables.
Through research, it has been shown that by adding blueberries to your diet and eating them daily, it directly increases the antioxidant levels in your body.
Blueberries increase something called “natural killer” cells which are white blood cells, playing a critical role in the immune system. The cells then scan the body for abnormal cells, destroying them before they can develop.
Great As A Healthy Snack
They may be small but these little things taste lovely – making them a great snack option. Of course, they can be eaten as they are but don’t forget, you can add them to a variety of your snacks too.
Vegan Yoghurt Bowl – Along with other fresh fruit, you can add a handful of blueberries to your yoghurt bowl. Top with almonds / cashews or walnuts for added nutrients.
Smoothie – A quick smoothie in the morning would be 1 banana, water, 1-2 dates and a good handful of blueberries. A great way to start your day if you’re looking for something different.
Pancakes – Looking for something a bit more exciting? Add blueberries to your vegan pancake mix and add them as a topping with maple syrup. A lovely treat.
Cereal – Add other berries such as raspberries, strawberries and blueberries as a topping to your cereal. Make sure you check for a good quality cereal.
